Restorative Dentistry
What is “restorative dentistry”? Technically restorative dentistry is restoring your teeth to proper form and function. Basically this means that Dr. Johnson can fix you. Well, at least he can fix your teeth. He has a whole bag of skills that enable him to take your teeth from average to awesome.
Implants
Dental implants are truly one of the biggest breakthroughs in dentistry of the last century. A dental implant is a synthetic structure that is placed in the space once occupied by the root of the removed tooth. The implant fuses to the jaw and provides a stable platform for a replacement tooth. Previously if a tooth was lost due to disease or damage the only options for replacement involved bulky dentures or bridges that negatively affect the remaining teeth.
Implants provide an excellent treatment option that is not only more comfortable but longer lasting. If you have questions about whether implants are a good option for you please let us know. Implant consultations are free of charge including x-rays, and Dr. Johnson can discuss with you what options would be best to replace your missing teeth.
Periodontics
Periodontics is one of the more often overlooked areas of dental care, which is why we make it a priority to assess your gum and bone health when you become our patient. Periodontics focuses on the supporting structures of the teeth, primarily the gums and bone. When gums are not properly cared for, they can become inflamed, leading to red, swollen gums that bleed easily—a condition known as gingivitis. If gingivitis is left untreated, it can progress to periodontal disease (periodontitis), a more serious condition where the bone supporting the teeth recedes or pulls away. This loss of bone stability can result in tooth instability or even tooth loss.
Current research indicates that periodontal disease may also have a hereditary component. According to the American Dental Association, genetics can be a risk factor for developing gum disease. Additionally, there may be a connection between our immune response and the onset of chronic periodontitis.
